The Town of Bridport

The bustling market town of Bridport is particularly well known for its popular Farmer's Market and has also been championed by TV chef Hugh Fernley Whittingstall in his River Cottage series.

BridportDating from the 9th or 10th century, the town had become the country's most important ropemaking centre by the 1400s. A visit to the Bridport Museum brings to life the town's colourful past, whilst a tour of Palmers Brewery enables you to sample the town's popular traditional ales.

Bridport's regular market harks back over 1000 years. Today markets are held every Wednesday and Saturday with a Farmer's Market on the 2nd Saturday of the month. Browse Bridport's local craft and gift shops and high street stores.

One mile south of the town is West Bay (once called Bridport Harbour). Instantly recognisable from the 1990s Harbour Lights series, this pretty harbour village is the gateway to the magnificent Jurassic Coast.

In the evening, eat out at one of the Bridport's great pubs or restaurants or sample a fresh seafood supper on the harbour at West Bay.
